You are looking to buy planters online and are looking for the best places to do so.
There are many things to consider when buying plants. Of course, you want to buy a plant that appeals to you visually. Then, it also plays a role in how difficult the plant is to maintain.
While some indoor plants are easy to keep, other indoor plants only survive if you can find a suitable place for the plant within your own four walls that are in keeping with its nature.
That is not always easy because different plants need different levels of sunlight; some only thrive in high humidity, and others only thrive if given a special substrate.
Last but not least, when you buy indoor plants, you’ll also want to ensure that you get a nice-looking plant pot because keeping indoor plants in nursery pots is often a huge no-go.
And this is exactly what this blog post is about: Plant pots & planters. And the question that needs to be answered specifically here is: Where can I buy visually attractive and functional plant pots online?
You can do that online if you are still looking for the perfect houseplant! We gathered the 13 best places to buy houseplants online in the US for you!
But now, let us get back to the topic of plant pots & planters.
In the following, we present the best places to buy all kinds of plant pots, be it terracotta pots, ceramic pots, the weirdest pots ever, Buddha pots, face pots, or any other pot…you name it!
We get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

Best Places To Buy Planters Online
The 3 best places to buy planters online are Amazon, AllModern, and At Home. Amazon has a great selection of planters at an affordable price. AllModern has great-looking designer pots, and At Home has a wide selection of indoor and outdoor pots and cute indoor ceramic pots.
Amazon
It probably does not surprise you that Amazon figures are in our list of best online stores for planters and plant pots.
While certainly not the coolest and most niche store for plants & planters, Amazon is an option to find some nice-looking planters at affordable prices.
Amazon has your back if you are looking for regular indoor planters.
Amazon also has you covered if you are looking for some simple hanging planters.
Maybe you are also just on the lookout for some simple railing planters for your herbs, and Amazon will provide them here as well.
I am personally a big fan of the Lechuza planters that are self-watering and make use of Lechuza pon.
Pon is a fertilized substrate containing volcanic stones as well as other pebbles. You can buy these directly at Amazon.
AllModern
The name says it pretty much. Expect to find modern-looking planters & plant pots on the website of AllModern.
AllModern’s range of planters includes pot planters & box planters, hanging planters, railing planters & window planters.
Currently, AllModern lists about 230 products for planters & plant pots.
If modern interior design is your thing, you can certainly give AllModern a go.
Looking for some more crazy or weird-looking planters, or maybe just for more diversity as far as planters & plant pots go?
In this case, you might want to give Wayfair a go (AllModern is operated by Wayfair!) or head over to Etsy!
At Home (Home Décor Superstore)
You will feel right at home when looking for planters & plant pots on the At Home website.
No matter if you are in desperate need of indoor pots, outdoor pots, hanging planters, or even plant stands, At Home probably has the right product for you.
If shopping from the comfort of your home, At Home offers various indoor & outdoor pots. They only offer a couple of hanging planters, though.
If you are into cute indoor ceramic pots, At Home has certainly got you covered.
Unfortunately, many items you will come across in the online store are only available for pickup.
Etsy
Not only is Etsy a good place to buy plants online, but it is also a great place to shop for plant pots and many other plant accessories.
If you are not exactly into boring, unicolor plant pots in regular plant pot shapes, Etsy might be just the right place for you.
Well, they certainly also sell standard plant pots, but they also have plenty of unusual-looking and unique kinds of planters on sale.
Be it a Simpson plant pot, a personalized plant pot, or some creepy baby doll plant bot, Etsy has them all!
Oh, and by the way, Etsy also sells adorable planters for succulents, such as these animal planters. Aren’t they simply adorable?
You might need to take a half-day off, though, as Etsy has a whopping 250 pages full of plant pots, planters & saucers for you to enjoy!
IKEA
Well, I guess IKEA does not need any introduction. But is IKEA also a good place to buy planters? We would say so!
Ikea probably isn’t our all-time favorite for planters, but they certainly have some nice-looking planters on sale. As you would expect, most planters you’d find on Ikea are plain and modern, but if that is what you are looking for, you should give IKEA a go!
Compared with many other online shops, IKEA’s planters and plant pots are pretty cheap, ranging from 2 dollars up to just about 10 dollars.
If you are into weird and crazy-looking plant pots, IKEA most probably isn’t your best bet.
The Home Depot
The Home Depot is another online store that is there to satisfy your plant & planter addiction. And let’s be honest, buying the plant itself and the planter for that plant at the same place can come in handy.
However, it must be said that some plants that you will stumble upon in the Home Depot online store are either only available for pick up in stores or only available online, which is the case for many succulents.
Then, some items can easily be shipped to your home, while for others, only scheduled delivery is available (Home Depot will bring the products to your home at a scheduled time; this is some flat-rate service where all the qualifying items in your order can be delivered for one fee.)
Regarding planters, The Home Depot lists about 6000 items online.
Also, if you are still in need of some houseplant potting soil such as the popular Miracle-Gro, you’ll find that in Home Depot, too.
TJMaxx
It’s pretty safe to say that you will stumble upon the name TJMaxx at some point or another when shopping for plant pots.
TJMaxx has a huge assortment of plant pots. And they do indeed sell them online as well. However, only if you are living in the US. If you are from outside the US, you won’t even be able to open their webshop, unfortunately. That’s a pity.
Wayfair
Planter boxes, planter boxes with trellis, ceramic pots, hanging planters, steel planters, Buddha face planters, wooden planter boxes, railing planters, urn planters & even raised garden containers; it’s all there on the official website of Wayfair.
If you are a bargain hunter, Wayfair probably isn’t the best spot for you.
Prices for planters and plant pots are ranging from 20 dollars up to about 200 dollars. But they certainly have some unique-looking planters that will be hard to get anywhere else.
Also, Wayfair is offering free shipping for all orders over 35 dollars, and it seems that almost all products that you see on the website are in stock and do indeed qualify for “Ship-to-Home-Delivery.”
That is certainly very nice, as many of the online stores that we listed in this article do only ship certain articles to your home, and many items do not even seem to be available (in stock) in the first place.
Marshall’s
Marshall’s is yet another great place to shop for plant pots & planters, at least if you are located within the United States. If you are not, you will be greeted by the message, “We’re sorry, marhsalls.com is unavailable in your country.” Oops.
Let’s suppose you are a US Citizen, though.
Overstock
Overstock has a very interesting mix of plant pots & planters in stock. Like many other online retailers in the gardening & home decor business, they sell simple ceramics planters, metallic planters, plastic planters, and terracotta planters.
However, they also sell beautiful and sometimes very expensive handmade porcelain planters for up to 650 dollars.
Overstock does ship internationally. So, even outside the US, you can get your hands on some of Overstock’s unique-looking planters & plant pots.
Sometimes, you might buy a plant pot without having a houseplant for that pot yet. It happens to all of us. You don’t need to feel sorry about it!
That said, if you did buy a beautiful planter at Overstock or some of the other online stores mentioned in this article but don’t have the perfect houseplant for that container yet, you might want to have a look at our article about the 13 Best Places to Buy Houseplants Online in the US.
Target
Another name that you will come across often whenever plant pots & planters are at the heart of the discussion is a store named Target.
Target has them all: Tabletop planters for your Chinese Money plant, hanging planters for your heartleaf philodendron or String of Pearls, face planters for your indoor cacti , brass planters for your Snake plant or Monstera, or just some simple white planters for your hardy ZZ plant.
If you have a weak spot for humidity-loving plants, you’ll also find wood/glass terrariums on Target.
Transparent containers like these also have the advantage of making watering easier, as you can see how much water is still in the container.
If you are an animal lover, Target also has a couple of cute animal planters for you, such as cement rabbit planters, bird planters, dino planters, Llama plant pots, and dog planters.
Target does not offer international shipping. If you are in the US, many items can be shipped to any of the 50 states.
Walmart
As you would probably expect, Walmart has a wide range of planters & plant pots for you to explore. Here’s a little sneak peek at what kind of plant pots Walmart has on sale:
- Outdoor planters (resin planters, plastic planters, stone planters, metal planters, wood planters, clay planters)
- Indoor planters (ceramic planters, resin planters, clay planters, metal planters, iron planters, wood planters)
- Raised Garden Beds
- Animal planters (dog planters, panda planters, frog planters, elephant planters, dino planters, lion planters, owl planters & much more)
That said, not all the products found on walmart.com are directly distributed by Walmart. But as long as you will receive the ordered goods in good condition, you couldn’t probably care less, we would imagine.
WISH.COM
I wish there would be an online shop that sells plant pots at affordable prices…
…well, there is one: Wish.com
On wish.com, you can find planters for meager prices. Whether nursery pots, unicolor plant pots, hanging planters, nursery pots for seedlings, or some handmade wooden storage basket for your ZZ plant or Monstera deliciosa, chances are that Wish.com is the perfect shopping place for you!
If it’s not online, then…
If you have a more traditional approach to shopping and prefer actually to visit physical stores for planters & plant pots instead, here are some great places for you where you can buy all sorts of plant pots & containers for your leafy friends:
- Daiso Japan
- Dollar Store
- Goodwill (they do have a couple of products online as well, but just in the form of auctions)
- HomeGoods (HomeGoods does not have an online store, but that said, they do have an app that lets you know more about great finds that people make in stores.)
- Lowe’s (They do ship certain larger items, but only for a flat fee and only if you are near one of their stores.)
- Ollie’s Bargain Store (If you are not shopping online, Ollie’s is THE PLACE to go for planters!)
- Walmart (Walmart also sells online but is certainly also a good place for offline shopping tours.)
Other good sources for planters & plant pots are yard sales, flea markets, and thrift shops.
And local nurseries obviously often have great plant pots, too!
Buy Planters & Plant Pots FAQ
I am desperately searching for face planters but can’t find any. Where should I look?
If you are looking for amazing face (head) planters, Etsy is your best bet. While many of the online shops only sell a couple of face planters, Etsy has plenty of them.
Who is offering planters at very cheap prices?
Generally speaking, if you are looking for cheap plant pots, it is better to visit physical stores. Many big stores do have planters & plant pots on sale at certain times throughout the year. During those sales, planters & plant pots are sometimes extremely cheap. Also, these sales are often limited to the physical stores and are, therefore, unavailable online.
What are the best plants for head planters?
Some great houseplants for head (face) planters are the String of Pearls and the String of Bananas. Spider plants also look great in face planters, and maybe some succulents & cacti (such as the Burro’s tail succulent). Haworthia and Aloe Vera are also great plants for face planters.
Where can I buy dog-shaped planters?
Etsy has a good selection of dog-shaped planters. Be it ceramic chihuahua planters, labrador planters, pug planters, or some super cute bulldog planters, Etsy is your best bet.
Where can I find some nice-looking Buddha head planters?
Again, Etsy is your best bet. On Etsy, you will find different kinds of Buddha head planters. You can also find some beautiful Buddha head planters on Amazon besides Etsy. Occasionally, you will find some Buddha head planters in other online stores such as Walmart or T.J. Maxx.
I am a big fan of Skull Planters. Where can I find some?
Both Etsy and Amazon offer a wide range of skull planters. In our opinion, Etsy has a better collection of skull plant pots.
